QR Codes/Shortened URLs - Sooooo Cool!
URL shortening is a technique on the World Wide Web in which a Uniform Resource Locator (URL) may be made substantially shorter in length and still direct to the required page. This is achieved by using an HTTP Redirect on a domain name that is short, which links to the web page that has a long URL. For example, the URL http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/URL_shortening can be shortened to http://bit.ly/urlwiki, http://tinyurl.com/urlwiki or (my favorite) http://goo.gl/Gmzqv.
Shortening long web addresses makes it easier for students to get to a desired web site faster.
Here are a few ways to shorten a URL:
My Favorite: Simply type in goo.gl and press enter. This will take you to the Google url shortener. Copy and past the long URL in the blank provided and click shorten url. Success! Now you have a shortened URL.
Hint: You can turn in shortened URL into a QR (Quick Response Code) in any browser. To do this copy and paste the shortened url you created in to your web browser and add a .qr on to the end and press enter. You now have a QR Code.

My Absolute Favorite Way of Creating Shortened URL's or QR Codes
Use Google Chrome...
I am an avid Google Chrome user. Launch Google Chrome.
Go to the Google Chrome Web Store.
Search for goo.gl URL Shortener. I use the extension that is from giakomino. This will create an extension (icon) to the right of your omni-box in google chrome that will allow you to easily create a shortened URL and a QR code with one click.
