For the 2022-2023 School year, the CTE/CCMR department will continue to strategically align department initiatives, activities, and district wide campaigns to meet and exceed the following goals:

Student Academic Success

Increase the percentage of graduates who meet at least one college, career, or military readiness indicators with in the A-F accountability framework

Students, families, and community Connections

Increase student participation, experiences and service opportunities to ensure 90% of students are connected with areas of interest

We will give you College, career and Military Readiness Events and Resources, CTE programs of Study news, and updates from Shari Huffman our CTE instructional team Leader.

During CTE month, we provided a district wide marketing campaign on how "CTE ... ITs working". By showing videos and program information across the district. It was a great opportunity for our CTE teachers to promote their program, as well as students determine what career interest they would like to follow. You can check out all of the CTE program videos here. Thank you to Coach Lovvorn and the Audio/Video Production Students for making all of our videos.

Our CTE student Ambassadors were selected by CTE teachers, students that have an interest in becoming a WPISD CTE student Ambassador, were sent an email. We are so excited to get a group of dedicated WPHS CTE students to become leaders for the school but also for the district.

These group of students performed so many events in the last month and a half. They were very successful with presenting their CTE programs.

February, the ambassadors went out and discussed programs at high school lunches, and participated in the CTE showcase night for 8th grade families.

March,the ambassadors gave presentations to the junior high career day and then gathered for their presentation at the CTE business luncheon.

CTE has created some business and collegiate relationships with growing CTE programs. Mrs. Reynolds program, Health science, has grown over 15% from the previous years. We are meeting the demand of the students interest and economy growth. By offering Health Science students a dual credit program through TVCC. Students will obtain a Certified Medical Assistant certification. In the Fall of 2023-2024 school, health science students will have the opportunity to start their Medical career early.

In the Van Zandt county, Law enforcement and Emergency services is a high demand, high skill career that meets our community needs. Mr. Duke will be co facilitating our Emergency services program with Kilgore College Fire Academy. We are looking forward to the students that apply for this program that will start their Fire fighter program early in high school.

Partnering with East Texas Workforce will give our graduating seniors the opportunity to have free admission and free supplies for their Vocational post secondary school, of their choice. Students will have to financially qualify. We are thrilled that our partnership with East Texas workforce because it will expand the more possibilities of students with any background to achieve post secondary education. They will visit our campus again April 11th.

Its really important for our district to stay connected with community business partners. In our CTE department, we took the initiative to connect and build relationships with our City of Wills Point. Thanks to Mrs. Pam Pearson, city Administrator. The support and resources the city provides for our students looking for apprenticeships and internships, has the entire department overwhelmed with excitement. We are giving our students the opportunity to grow with in the community.

We are actively finishing up all of our industry certifications in : OSHA, Texas Florist, Community Health worker, ServSafe Manager, Adobe Suite, Microsoft suite, and ASE welding. All certifications will be completed by April 30th 2023.

Internships and Apprenticeship program experiences provide opportunities for students to explore potential career interests, fields, or professional settings and help students determine whether they want to engage further in future training or career choices.

With SchooLinks, students have the ability to search, favorite, and apply for scholarships all within the platform. However, we take this further with our Scholarship Matching tool and connect students to scholarships based on eligibility, interests, and target colleges.

The Texas Leadership Scholars program seeks top performing students with demonstrated financial need, leadership in their high school community, and academic success.

Texas DOT has annual program for high school students to obtain grants for higher education enrollment, and summer paid internship positions. Ages start at 16 years old. See Mrs. Jacobs for more information.

The mission of the Institute for Broadening Participation is to increase diversity in the Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) workforce. Since 2003, IBP has connected underrepresented students with STEM funding and research opportunities, and has provided faculty and administrators with tools and resources to help promote the positive factors that keep underrepresented students on the STEM pathway into successful STEM careers. We design and implement strategies to increase access to STEM education, funding, and careers, with special emphasis on diverse underrepresented groups. We believe that diversifying the STEM workforce is the best way to ensure our nation's economic vitality and solve global challenges

  Several programs, including summer camps and science exposure programs. Programs are either tuition-free or provide scholarships.


• Programs for high school students
  Over 50 programs, including summer science and research programs, internships, and other STEM exposure programs. Programs are ether tuition-free or provide scholarships.


• Even more paid internships for high school level students


• STEM professional development programs for K-12 teachers
  Research experiences for teachers (RET) and other programs designed to support K-12 educators teaching in the STEM disciplines.
