Walter Elias Disney was born on December 5, 1901 in Chicago, Illinois and died on December 16, 1966. He was raised on a farm near Marceline, Missouri, Walt became interested in drawing at an early age, selling his first sketches to neighbors when he was only seven years old. At McKinley High School in Chicago, Disney divided his attention between drawing and photography, contributing both to the school paper. At night he attended the Academy of Fine Arts.
What factors in American society led to the creation and/or rise in popularity of this inventon?
1)Television was really important in the 1950s, especially family orientated tv. Walt Disney had created a television show with ABC. Made it a great vacation destination. Also, Disneyland company was slowly growing, becoming more and more popular, especially after the production of Snow White, the first full-length color cartoon movie.
How did this invention change American society?
2) Before Disneyland families didn't have a fun vacation to go to. But when they finished building Disneyland it became one of the ultimate vacation destinations for families. People began to take breaks from their daily jobs and go on family vacations.
Why did you feel this invention was a turning point in American life?
It was a family thing think of how important family vacations are now it started then family trips became more cherished. Pluse the popularity to the Disney company which is one of the biggest companies in the world now. It became more focused on families instead of just one age group, which was an idea that was shared all through the 1950s.
