Our Week in Pictures
Thank You!
Thank you for all the thoughtful notes, gifts, smiles and hugs this past week. I am overwhelmed with gratitude!
Mindful Math
Sharing strategies and practicing our speaking and listening skills at the same time. Win-Win!
Readers are Leaders!
This is an exciting time of the year. So many students are choosing to be the reader during our guest reader visits. Look how far we have come!
This Week in ELA...
Theme: Life Cycle of Plants
Comprehension Focus:
- Main Idea and Details
- Locating Text Evidence
- Retelling Stories
- Review: Fiction vs. Nonfiction
- Story Elements (characters, setting, events)
Popcorn Words:
- under
- please
*WOW! We have learned all 92 of our Popcorn Words! Look for a list of your child's words in his/her home folder this week. Highlighted words need continual practice.
*NEW: Each student now has a personalized word ring to practice in class! The words selected for your child's ring are words he/she needs to practice reading from our Popcorn Words or words that I have seen him/her misspell in writing. The students are really excited about their own ring and I love the differentiation!
WRITING: Opinions
Opinion Writing:
- Opinions are personal thoughts or feelings.
- Opinion writing uses opinion sentence starters. (I think... My favorite... I believe...)
- Opinions are supported with details. (Example: I like strawberries because they are red, sweet and juicy.)
