Families In Separate Households
FISH Grade 1
Our new group is starting soon!
Dear Parents,
Your child has been invited to participate in a counseling group at Milton Avenue School. This particular group is called FISH (Families in Separate Homes). It is a peer support group to help children handle issues associated with separation and/or divorce. One of the most powerful aspects of this program is that children who participate realize that they share similar feelings with each other about their circumstances, and that they are not alone as they go through these experiences. Sharing feelings and thoughts helps each child know that other children have similar feelings and thoughts; that anything he/she is feeling is normal and “OK”.
These groups will be limited to a maximum of 6 students. I will send home weekly information and “talking points” regarding the work we are doing in our group. Participation in this group is voluntary. The children are free to join or leave the group at any time.
