LRE Family Update
February & March 2024
A Message from Principal Payne . . .
Hello Logan-Rogersville Elementary Families,
Believe it or not, here we are already venturing through third quarter quickly with lots of exciting things happening. See the detailed list below. One thing we are super excited about is the First Annual LRE Family Night - an Open House event. We want to invite all of our students and their families into the building to see the amazing things our students have been working on in class, showcase their artwork, visit the book fair, and enjoy some other fun activities together here at school. See the detailed flyer below. We are excited to welcome our families into our building for this event.
Check out the picture above of our PAWSitive Behavior Jars. This is a new school-wide incentive, where our students have to work collectively as a whole class to earn participation in an awesome party. All LRE staff members are watching for classes that are following expectations in all settings of our building - the classrooms, the hallway, the cafeteria, the playground. Ask your students what their class has earned a PAW for recently. This week Mrs. Carrier's class and Ms. McKinney's class was able to attend a special event for winning our first school challenge.
Attendance matters! Attendance means being at school every day, on time, all day. We love to see your child at school each day. We love for them to be included in the learning process from start to finish. We need your continued support with this. Please make school attendance a top priority for your child and let us know how we can best support you. We are here to help. PTA is awarding the class in each grade level with the best attendance each month a special recess. For the month of January, Mrs. Carrier's class and Ms. McKinney's class won this prize as well!
Please check out our Lost & Found pictures below. Teachers often have their class visit the Lost & Found to check for missing items, but this space is still overflowing. If your child is missing an item, please have them check the Lost & Found, or feel free to visit the school to have a look for yourself. We will be bagging up all Lost & Found items and donating them to the PTA Wildcat Closet after Friday, February 9th.
Thank you for the support you show our students, staff, and school!
Sincerely,
Principal Payne
Headphones Required
Just a reminder that all students need a pair of headphones at school with them everyday. Please check with your student to ensure they have a working pair here at school with them. Headphones are used daily with technology during reading and math stations, for district testing, and in library/computer class. Having headphones available helps students' days run smoothly while keeping classrooms comfortable and conducive to learning. This LINK takes you to an example pair that we have found are durable, cost efficient, and last. Thank you for supporting your child's learning here at school.
Attention CatCare Families
LR CatCare Families,
We would like to gently remind families with outstanding balances for the Before and After School CatCare Program to kindly settle these at your earliest convenience. Payments can be made through the ProCare App or cash/check may be brought to your child's school.
Thank you,
Sara Mashburn (grades 3-6) and Melissa Roberts (grades K-2)

A Note from the Music Room
We are so excited to welcome our amazing student teacher, Mr. Kochevar (or Mr. K) to the music room!! He has jumped right in and is already teaching lessons to our second graders...and they LOVE him!!
Over the next two months, we will be very busy. The Second Graders will be learning about the four instrument families---Brass, Strings, Woodwinds, and Percussion, as well as the Baroque Period and composers Vivaldi, Bach, and Handel.
The Third Graders will be learning about the Classical Period and composers Beethoven, Haydn, and Mozart, as well as learning more songs for the Third Grade Concert on April 25. Of course, there will also be lots and lots of singing!!
On another note, we are so blessed and excited that we are receiving a grant from the Logan-Rogersville Education Foundation!! This money will purchase 15 instruments (xylophones, metallophones, and glockenspiels) to be used in the
music classroom!! I cannot wait to start using them!! Thank you LREF!!

A Note from the Art Room
Hello LRE Families!
During February and March we will be finishing our first big project for the semester and starting a couple of new ones. In connection with their classroom content unit, 2nd grade will be finishing our Inventor unit where we have talked about Leonardo DaVinci and his work. Students have also got inspiration from Chinese kite-making. We will use all of our research to create our own “flying” machines. Students will work within the categories of gliders or kites to create their design. We will work to balance form and function to create an amazing invention!
In 3rd grade we are wrapping up our Missouri Art and Culture unit. We have looked at traditional pioneer crafts, famous Missouri artists, and Osage art that all are part of our amazing Missouri culture. Students will be designing their own diorama to give a visual representation of Missouri with personal connections, landmarks, and history all being considered.
From there we will transition on to Ceramics work in 2nd and 3rd grade where we will be learning about different clay vocabulary and techniques. Students will have an amazing 3D piece to display when we are finished. Toward the end of March we might also be able to start our Textile units in both grades where students will get to use the sewing machines in class (with much adult supervision)!
Please be on the lookout for their amazingly creative work to be displayed at our LRE parent night. Every student will have at least one piece of work on display.
If you have any questions please feel free to let me know!

A Note from the PE Gym . . .
We had an AWESOME time in PE last month working on bowling and doing the Bowling Wall of Fame. We definitely love our Kansas City Chiefs and keep rooting for them each and every week.
For the month of February we will be learning about hand/eye coordination while doing cup stacking. We will also spend some time doing some rhythm and dance movements, as well as patterns while continuing our perceptual power with skills and movement basics.
Please be aware of when your child has PE and ensure they come prepared dressed in appropriate PE attire and tennis shoes.
Please feel free to contact me at sreeves@logrog.net if you have any questions or concerns.
Thank you,
Coach Reeves
