Margret of Parma (Phillip II's sister) is the Netherland ruler.
Tension began to grow.
1568-1576
North battles with Spain. William Of Orange battles with Duke of Alba.
1579
Catholics and Protestants battle Spain Union of Ultrecht.
1579-1609
Spain wins the war and gained the lower countries back; back to North battling Spain.
1609
Spain gets involved in to many other wars, looses to Dutch. Nobody wants Spain as an ally. Peace treaties were made.
Main Causes
The root cause of the Dutch Revolt was that Spain owned the Netherland and the Netherlands would pay tax money to Spain but wouldn't get anything in return. The Netherlands were getting poor and hungry, and Spain up & left them all alone with no support. The Netherlands were so upset, they went to war with Spain so they could be their own country and colonize as their own.

The Dutch Revolt ended by the war ending with the 12 Years Truce. For 12 years the tension between Spain and the Netherlands would be settled. The Netherlands were recognized as their own country, apart from Spain. Although, technically Spain still "owned" the Netherlands. Protestants were allowed to peruse their own religion, however their religion wasn't allowed in public or in public office.
