Principal's Message
Dear Families,
Last week our Board of Education voted to rescind its April 14th decision to return elementary school students for four days of in person instruction weekly if families desired that option. Despite this change, the Board and FCPS Leadership, along with our TPS staff, remain committed to returning as many students to the building as possible while adhering to health and safety protocols.
As we await further direction, please know TPS staff continue to be available to support your child, and your family, in the fully virtual or hybrid learning formats. Classroom teachers will continue to provide small group support to meet specific learning needs in both reading and math. The TPS specialists and special education staff will continue to provide targeted intervention support in response to individual student needs. Our school counselor, Mrs. McQuay, continues to be available to support your child's social-emotional needs.
Additionally, Our Cougar Care Center continues to be available during afternoon student work time and throughout the day on Wednesdays. Students can log in with the code “tps-cougarcenter” to receive individualized assistance to review lessons, practice skills and/or complete Schoology assignments. Please consider if this would be helpful for your child and assist with managing asynchronous work.
We know many of our TPS families, and students, were looking forward to coming to school more days weekly. We also know the challenges of the past year have not been easy on you or your child(ren). We are grateful for your continued patience, understanding and support. We believe that as we continue to embrace our inner “Courage of a Cougar” we will be able to have a strong finish to our school year with students growing their brain, heart and body power every day!
Yours in education,
Michele Baisey

We are looking for committed, caring and collaborative individuals to help serve on a Parent Teacher Association (PTA) Board. We believe a PTA plays an important role in the lives of the students, families and staff in our schools. We know that building a strong PTA will benefit our entire school community.
Please contact Heather Putnam (heater.putnam@fcps.org) if you are interested in supporting our Thurmont Elementary & Primary Schools (TEPS) PTA.
