Week 24
I would love to have parents come volunteer in our classroom to lend a listening ear and a questioning curiosity as we dig deeper into content that asks the learner to analyze and synthesize information in new ways. If this is something you might consider, feel free to contact me via email or phone and I can fill you in on specific times and subjects.
Texas History
We will describe the impact of the Civil War and Reconstruction on Texas. We will explain how developments in transportation and communication have influenced economic activities in Texas.
Science
We will identify and classify Earth's renewable resources, including air, plants, water, and animals; and nonrenewable resources, including coal, oil, and natural gas; and the importance of conservation.
We will also measure and record changes in weather and make predictions using weather maps, weather symbols, and a map key.
Math
We will compare and order fractions and decimals using concrete and visual models to the hundredths. We will relate decimals to fractions that name the tenths and hundredths place. We will also be using the website Thinking Blocks to model fractions of a number, total or part of a number, and addition and subtraction with like denominators.
Reading
During reading time, we will describe the interactions of characters including their relationships and the changes they undergo. We will be looking at the characters Pip Squeak and Big Bark.
Writing
This week in writing, we will look at authentic revising and editing examples. We will use an interactive format of 'Brain in the Game' and IQ slap down to demonstrate question analysis. We will also explore different conclusion examples from fellow 4th graders.
Word Work
Our spelling this week will explore base words with roots and affixes. Our focus will be -ion, -ment, -ly, dis- and pre-)
Please look for daily practice at home (aka homework) Tuesday due Friday!
