Bennett Bulletin
October 9 - October 15
From Ms. Bennett:
This week was a whirlwind, in great ways! Please read over this bulletin and check out some videos to explore more!
For those of you who do not know, I am finishing my last class of my master's in Education Technology (I graduate in December!). Over the summer, one of my biggest projects was to research about an ed-tech topic and write a grant. In turn, I wrote this grant with my students in mind and submitted my work to the Forest Hills Foundation. Tuesday was a very special day for me personally, and I am so thankful your fourth-grader was able to be there to support me. On Tuesday, I was surprised by our principal Mrs. VanAntwerp and one of our Forest Hills Foundation Board Members as they presented me with the good news! I earned the grant, and your fourth grader will be able to learn and explore this new technology with me! 3rd graders and 4th graders will use LegoWeDo 2.0 to learn about science, technology, engineering, coding, robotics and so much more!
I am so thankful for the support of the community.
In addition to the Tech grant, Mrs. Kemppainen and myself were also awarded our grant to continue our collaboration with FHC High School. This year, your fourth grader will be part of our collaboration! We are so excited!!!
UPCOMING EVENTS
TUESDAY (Oct 17) - Ms. Bennett will be at a math training, learning about how to enhance math lessons with problem-solving skills and visible thinking. There will be a sub during the day.
Restorative Practices
This was the most powerful 2-day training I have ever attended...
It does this by bringing about a sense of remorse and restorative action on the part of the offender and forgiveness by the victim.
Check out this video about how this technique is beneficial for all parties involved:
Although we learned about how to use restorative practiced in schools, I know it will work anywhere. PLEASE try these simple questions out. They are powerful and allow us to think about our decisions toward restoration.

Unit 2: Multiplication and Geometry
We will be starting Unit 2 this week! We will begin our adventure of multiplication and build upon the basic practices from third grade.
Common Core mathematics supports the need for students to become independent problem solvers. We are working on persevering through problems, and having this mentality helps build their confidence in the content.
