Calling all Kinder 2023-2023 School Year!!
In order to create the most accurate enrollment picture for budgeting next year, we are working to identify as many incoming kinder for NEXT school year. If present Caverly/Lothrop Families have children who plan to attend Kinder next year, please respond to this email or send an email to Sara Eddy in the front office, even if you we know your family well :)
If you know of a family that might not be connected to Caverly/Lothrop, yet, please encourage them to reach out to Sara or I. If you really do not know a family, but suspect they may have children entering Lothrop Kinder next year, providing any information to us will be helpful and we will reach out to them.
Pittsford is awesome at getting this type of word out and information to us-thanking you all in advance!

Family Conferences November 9th and 17th
It is hard to believe that we are already planning for family conferences! Below you will find sign-up sheets for all of our classroom teachers. Should you wish for an interventionist, special educator, Integrated Arts Teacher, school counselor, nurse or principal present, please reach out to your child's classroom teacher and they can arrange for that. Please sign-up as soon as you are able so that we can ensure that we have a plan for everyone. You will notice that both in-person and virtual options are available. We look forward to meeting with you!
**If you would like time on Debbie's calendar, please reach out to her.
Lothrop Annual Halloween Parade
The 2022 Lothrop Halloween Parade will be held on Monday, October 31st at 1:15 PM. We will begin the parade on the blacktop and proceed across the playground, out to Pleasant Street, up Arch to the Village Manor. We will turn around in the Manor, where they plan to have residents to provide classes with goodie bags. This will be a great community connection.
Children may bring costumes for the parade. They can change just before, unless you hear different in your child's newsletter. We ask that costumes do not include masks as they often cover the eyes, impeding vision and causing a potentially unsafe situation as we march.
As usual, costumes should not include weapons, blood, or gore. They should be school-appropriate and consider that we will have children in grades K-6 participating. Please also consider your child's footwear choice as the walk is a little bit of a hike if one is in high heel shoes :)
Should learners wish to dress up and need help finding a costume, we have some available at the school. Please let your child's teacher, myself or the front office know as soon as you are able.
Families may view the parade from Pleasant Street and Arch Street. We will help children with costumes when it is time and if individual classrooms need help, they will reach out as well. Many times, our Middle-Level learners enjoy helping our Littles get ready! If you wish to pick up your child after the parade, please send in a note ahead of time and ensure that you connect with your child's teacher before leaving with your child.
Guidance on snacks and further activities for the day will come home in classroom newsletters.
Drawlloween
Mr. Matt, with the help from student artists, hosted our school morning meeting on Thursday, October 6. Did you know that this month is Drawlloween? In 2014, an artist began Drawlloween as an opportunity for artists to connect and draw a little bit everyday. Mr. Matt created a calendar for each day of October, there is a fun spooky object that students can draw. Students received these calendars either from their teacher or in art class. If students would like to participate, everyday they can draw the spooky object.
Paw Bank Celebration
After morning meeting, Mrs. Desforges surprised students and teachers with a school wide celebration because we filled our paw bank once again! She surprised us with a school wide game show called "Fancy Teacher." She called up two teachers, randomly chosen from a drawing, up to the stage where students voted on what items to dress teachers up in. It was a great way to celebrate meeting our school wide expectations.
Mrs. Tate shows off her fancy outfit!
Is that Mr. Duggan under that mask?
We have some very fancy teachers at Lothrop!
Using Math in P.E.
We are finishing up our first fitness unit of the year. In this unit we focused on the health related components of fitness : Cardiovascular Endurance, Muscular Endurance, Muscular Strength, and Flexibility. The students then took the first of 3 fitness assessments throughout the year. With this we were able to have the students bring their math skills into PE. They counted for Cardiovascular Endurance and Muscular Strength. They used their ruler skills to measure Flexibility and worked with time and stop watches to see their Muscular Endurance. I'm excited to see how they can all progress throughout the year.

Hot Lunch Information and Separate Milk
We have had a few phone calls regarding lunch accounts, so I thought it would be helpful to share what is free and what is not:
All meals are free BUT if a child ONLY wants milk that is considered ala carte and the child is charged for milk.
Your child does have the option of ordeirng a full meal, even if they only need milk and utilizing the Share Table. This is a place where they can return items that they do not want and others can pick up off the share table. Not all items can go on the share table like the entree, but many learners do take items for snack or because they are still hungry.
If you only want your child to get milk, you can also encourage them to check the share table before purchasing milk for $.50 a carton.
All of these "rules" are put in place federally as meals have to contain specific items.
