Lothrop Elementary and Middle
Lothorp School Day Begins at 8:00 AM
Morning routines are solid, drop off is going smoothly and learners in grades 1-6 are enjoying AM recess beginning at 7:35 AM. We also have many learners who get breakfast in the morning.
Part of the morning routine is "Morning Meeting." This is a time when classrooms come together as a community. Our bell rings at 7:55 so that learners can begin their day at 8:00 AM. We have a number of learners who are arriving right at 8:00 AM or a little after. While you are not "tardy" at 8:00 AM, arriving without time to get breakfast or just plain unpack gets in the way of a smooth transition into school and takes away from the community building that happens at the morniing meeting that occurs in each classroom. Please try and plan to have kiddos ready to learn by 8:00 AM. Our teachers use every minute they can! Thanks for your help with this important matter.
Family Conferences November 9th and 17th
It is hard to believe that we are already planning for family conferences! Below you will find sign-up sheets for all of our classroom teachers. Should you wish for an interventionist, special educator, Integrated Arts Teacher, school counselor, nurse or principal present, please reach out to your child's classroom teacher and they can arrange for that. Please sign-up as soon as you are able so that we can ensure that we have a plan for everyone. You will notice that both in-person and virtual options are available. We look forward to meeting with you!
**If you would like time on Debbie's calendar, please reach out to her.
3/4 Fall Concert: Celebrating the Music of the 50's
On Thursday, October 27th the third and fourth graders put on a spectacular concert to a packed and enthusiastic audience! Third and Fourth graders rocked the house with "golden oldies" that included "Old Time Rock and Roll," "Banjo's Back in Town," "Rock Around the clock," "At the Hop" and "Dancing in the Streets." Mrs. Bruce is so proud of all of the hard work the students put into learning the music. It was a wonderful performance!
3/4 Field Trip to VINS
On Wednesday, October 26 grades three and four headed out of Lothrop to VINS. While students were at VINS they spent some time in the outdoor classroom learning about different bird adaptations. Students looked at a claw, wing and skull of two different birds. They discussed and wrote down the characteristics of each part and discussed how that would help each bird survive. Students in grade three are reading the book Poppy by Avi. They discussed which character from the book they may see at VINS that day. Ask your student about this, see if they can tell you which character they saw last week. Students visited the Forest Canopy Walk and the Rapture Enclosures. We had a nice picnic lunch under the pavilion after watching a live Raptor Presentation. Students in grade four studied falconry prior to visiting VINS. During the live presentation they met a couple of birds that are often used in falconry. Their favorite was the Red Tailed Hawk that flew over their heads under the pavilion. It was a very exciting presentation and the students did a great job listening to the presenter and stayed calm to not distract the birds. It was a great day despite the rain and our learners all learned something new that day. If you haven't visited VINS it is well worth the trip.

Calling all Kinder 2023-2023 School Year!!
In order to create the most accurate enrollment picture for budgeting next year, we are working to identify as many incoming kinder for NEXT school year. If present Caverly/Lothrop Families have children who plan to attend Kinder next year, please respond to this email or send an email to Sara Eddy in the front office, even if you we know your family well :)
