Week 28
This week, we will be rotating through a writing boot camp in preparation for STAAR Writing on March 29th. We will also be participating in a Twitter Writing Challenge titled, The Amazing Race: Writing Edition. Please look on our website Twitter feed to see our class responses and rankings.
Texas History
We will identify the impact of various issues and events on life in Texas such as urbanization, increased use of oil and gas, the Great Depression, the Dust Bowl, and World War II.
Science
We will demonstrate that some likenesses between parents and offspring are inherited, while other likenesses are learned.
Math
We will use and represent strategies and algorithms, including array models, area models, partial products and the standard U.S. algorithm to solve 4-by-1 multiplication and 2-by2 multiplication context problems.
Reading
We will summarize the main idea and supporting details in text in ways that maintain meaning. We will create a sequencing chart the summarizes the plot's main events. We will also explain the plot's main events and their influence on future events.
Writing
This week in writing, we will look at authentic revising and editing examples. We will use an interactive format of 'Brain in the Game' and IQ slap down to demonstrate question analysis. We will also explore different conclusion examples from fellow 4th graders.
Word Work
We will be focusing on establishing a central idea, supporting sentences with simple facts, details, and explanations, and making sure our paragraphs contain a concluding statement. We will be using Blendspace to model our thinking.
Daily Practice at Home: Jot Dot Notes over three different writing website games.
