Summer Study Skills
Volume 3
Power Failure
Due to last Friday's power failure, this edition is a bit late. We started today's class with what we were planning to do last Friday and I will be adjusting the lesson plans to make sure that no content is missed. Fortunately, I had already planned some extra time in the class just in case of an event like this.
Tonight's Homework!
We started a mini research project in order to practice a method for organizing, planning, and writing an essay. They have created a 3-D organizer (see sample) and brainstormed a list of questions to answer. We worked for an hour in the computer lab as they performed research about their topics. By tomorrow's class, they should have 12 notecards completed (one answer per notecard). Then they will be able to begin actually writing the paper.
Progress Reports
Finally, you will receive a progress report in the mail later this week. This standardized form will update you on your child's progress in the class so far in areas such as attitude, behavior, preparation, and quality of work. If you have any questions or concerns about the progress report, please send me an email.
