WHES Newsletter Update
Monday, September 14th - September 18th 2020
Dear Westport Community,
The highlights for the week are:
ALL WEEK:
National Wellness Week - During remote learning we want to continue to support the social emotional needs of students, staff and families. We invite you to review the chart within the newsletter for details and take the time to participate, with your child, in the Wellness focus for each day.
LAUSD Meal Application Prize Drawings: We need your help. LAUSD mailed every family a paper copy of a meal application for the 2020-21 school year. Even if your child does, or will not, eat a school meal or visit Grab & Go meal centers, we are still asking every WHES family to complete an application for their household by going to https://www.myschoolapps.com/Application before the October 2nd deadline. These completed applications bring much needed funding for our school. There will be three (3) drawings offered with donations by the WHES Booster Support Club.
If you are not sure if you completed the application, please contact the Cafeteria Manager, Ylona Hanford at 310-645-6333 to confirm.

Westport Heights Elementary School: Core Values
Caring can be shown in many ways at a school. One of the ways to share Kudos across our community is to give KUDOS. When you care, you can "...spend time emphasizing the positive experiences... Just like you say “thank you” to a cashier for your change (aka “just doing their job”), giving a quick appreciation is polite, respectful, and an important part of building...relationships. It’s nice to know you are appreciated, even when it’s just the smaller moments!" [excerpt from KudosNow.com] See our Kudos of the Week below to highlight a few of those moments at WHES...
Kudos: Thank you Parents!
1- Make sure they remain positive and continue to be flexible as we opened our remote school year. Thank you for being great role models for your children on how to handle change gracefully!
2- Attended and joined the School Site Council Orientation and Elections this last Friday. Your voluntary leadership is a foundation for parent input in school site decision-making. Congratulations to our 2020-2021 SSC five parent members:

- Mary Molina
- Jana Taylor (Parliamentarian)
3- Wrote grants for the school community. Thank you, Ms. Kimberly Goodman for writing the latest SoCal Gas STEAM grant for a 3-D printer for our Makerspace. If awarded, when students return, their teachers will be able to do even more in that space to develop creativity and critical thinking! Fingers crossed!!
Kudos: Thank you Staff!
1- Work to make sure that our Social Media is up and functioning. Thank you to every staff member for every post, tag, tweet, and retweet which helps to keep our WHES community connected. Thank you Mrs. Laurie Griffin Wagner for leading the way with posts to our-
