A Note from our Principal
Dear Parents,
Fall is such a great time of year! It is also the time when we start to get really busy around here—as you can see by all of the upcoming activities listed. Please take note of some of the dates. The end of our first 9 week grading period will be on October 12 and report cards will go home on October 20th. Your child’s teacher will be scheduling a conference with you, if he/she hasn't already. Please note there is NO SCHOOL Oct. 13th & 16th. Along with fall weather, also comes a need for jackets. Please, please make sure that you label your child’s jacket so that we can return it to them if it is misplaced. Also remember to send a seasonal change of clothes to school with your child, We have lots of spills and accidents around here. Please keep your phone number and address updated with the office. We must to be able to get hold of someone if your child is ill or in an emergency.
Our PTO/Watch DOG kick-off was a huge success. Thank you to everyone who came. We got a lot of dads signed up for our Watch DOG program. If you would still like to sign up, please contact our school counselor, Mrs. Vanzant.
Here are some reminders to help our car pick-up line flow smoother in the afternoons: Continue to use your car tags. If you need another one, please notify your child's teacher and we will make sure you get one. Please pull to the side to buckle your child. You are welcome to pull up or into a parking space, but please do not get out and hold up the line getting your child buckled.
Please remember that when at all possible, your child needs to be in school for the entire day. Coming late and leaving early affects attendance. If you take your child out early or bring them late due to a medical apoointment, please bring a doctor's note so that your child can be excused.
Please plan on attending our 9th Annual Morris Monster Mash on October 28th from 5:00-8:00. Tickets are 25 cents each and all proceeds directly benefit our campus.. It will be great fun and we will need lots of volunteers! And, speaking of volunteers, I would like to send out a big thank you to all of our workroom volunteers and parent helpers! I would also like to remind you that if you plan on volunteering in any capacity this school year, or if you plan on attending a field trip, you MUST fill out a Criminal History Background Check. These forms were sent home at the beginning of the year and are also available in our front office and on-line. Don’t wait—get it done so it doesn’t sneak up on you right before an event.
We have an exciting evening coming up on November 2. This will be our Family Literacy Night (from 6:00-7:00) and our Open House (from 7:00-8:00). You do not want to miss being here that evening. We are having an author visit from Susan Stevens Crummel. She is a well known children's author and her presentation is interactive. We will be serving refreshements and there will be a book given to each child (one written by our visiting author). We will also be having our Scholastic Book Fair from October 30-November 3. It will be open that evening for your shopping convenience.

Counselor's Corner
Hello EEC Families,
Last month the students learned about listening rules. Ask your child to show you “Eyes watching, ears listening, voice quiet, and body still.” We also worked on improving our focus using our attent-o-scopes. (hands like binoculars to pay attention where needed)
This month we will be learning about fire safety, drug awareness, and bullying.
My lessons will focus on:
- Fire Safety--Students will participate in the activities when the Fire Department visits the EEC.
- Drug Awareness – Students will learn how hard it is to tell the difference between medicine and candy. We will discuss how important it is to always ask an adult before you touch, smell, taste or drink anything new or unusual.
- Bullying – Students will learn how to be a “Buddy not a Bully” focusing on treating each other with kindness.

Computers
Hello EEC family,
In computer class we have been practicing how to log on and off the computers. Each student has their own login and passwords that they use to log onto the computers here at school. They have been working hard on memorizing their logins and passwords!
1st graders are starting on Spelling City, this is a website that helps students study their vocabulary words. Kindergarten classes are staring on Reading Eggs, this website helps them on their reading skills, letters, and sight words. Pre-K classes are still working on how to use the mouse and exploring Starfall.
All classes have been doing awesome!

Music
Family and Friends,
This month in our first grade classes we will be learning all about Veteran's Day! We have a performance coming up at our annual KISD Veteran's Day Celebration. This year it will be on November 9th at the high school stadium. The first graders will be singing God Bless America. It will be a great learning experience and fun time for everyone! The kids will ride the bus over in the morning for the performance and then be back at the EEC before lunch starts. Feel free to join if you can, if not, no worries!
In our kindergarten and pre-kindergarten classes we have been focusing on various choreographed movement activities, steady beat rhymes, song fragments, echo singing, and other various expressive movements. If you have any questions about our curriculum please don't hesitate to email me or come join us in music class sometime!
Lastly, I mentioned this is the last newsletter, but as a reminder I will tentatively be out on maternity leave from November 6th - January 9th. Wendy Dollins will be my long-term substitute during this time. She is wonderful and I know the kids will have a blast with her!
