The English civil wars started from arguments between Charles of England the first and parliament overan Irish insurrection. Oliver clomwells settled the first war in 1645. Charles ended the second phase with defeat at the battle of Preston and his execution in 1649. Charles brought together an army of English and Scottish royalist which wanted Cromwell to take over Scotland in 1650.
Causes
Root cause- King Charles the 1st was trying to convert his kingdom of England and his kingdom of Scotland to a more Catholic belief while still being Protestant. Also th root cause was King Charles not liking that parliament was in the way of him making decisions.
Direct cause- the direct cause was parliament and King Charles disagreeing on decision because both thought they were right. In those times the only way to resolve something between to conflicting parties was to go to war. The people soon took sides. Parliamentarians (Roundheads) took the side of parliament. Royalists (cavaliers) took the side of the King.
