Spots Still Open in Dryland Workout Pods!
What is dryland? Exercises we do outside of the pool.
We're doing stretches, core work and strength exercises. We're starting out easy because I know we've all been pretty inactive for the past 6 months -and we're wearing masks, which takes some getting used to, but isn't really a problem.
Workout times are:
Thursdays 4:00-4:30pm (Boys pod of 5)
Thursdays 4:30-5:00pm (Girls pod of 5)
These workouts will run Oct.15- Dec. 19.
If you are interested in participating, please:
1. Email me- tell me which pod you will be coming to- or if you want to come, but can't make it on Thursdays
2. Follow this checklist:
Safety Protocols and Checklist:
Please fill out this screening and waiver form. If you are unable to print it out, we will have copies at the first workout. Athletes cannot join workouts unless families have filled out the form.
Please thoroughly review this parent screening flow chart of when to come to school and when not to.
If an athlete is getting a ride to school, the driver must stay until the coach has cleared the athlete. If an athlete has any COVID symptoms, they must leave immediately.
Please thoroughly review our workout guidelines, so you know what to expect.
For your general information: What to do if you were potentially exposed to someone with COVID-19
3. You will need to:
*bring a yoga mat or towel to lay on for core work
*wear a mask
*wear gym shoes & PE/workout clothes (be prepared for indoor or outdoor)
*bring a water bottle (drinking fountains are off limits)
*bring the parent signed Covid wavier (above) You do not need a doctor's physical yet.
Anyone have a good swim photo to put here?
Intro Email -Sept. 11, 2020- Team Info
My name is Sarah Dunn. I will be the head coach for both boys' and girls' swimming at Hudson's Bay this school year. I'm very excited to get to know you, meet you in person eventually (lol) and for us to GET INTO THE POOL!! ๐
I've been hoping we would be in the pool by now. (I'm sure you feel the same.) I've been hoping I would have definite start dates to share with you by now too. Those are out there, waiting for us if Covid conditions are right. Boys are scheduled to start Dec. 28, girls March 1. There's a small chance some coached pre-season outdoor dryland workouts might be allowed in small groups sometime this fall. I will keep you posted on any updates and am eager to jump at any opportunities for us to train. Like years past, we will be buddying up with Ft. Vancouver HS. They also have a new coach this year. Her name is Tessa Wargo. She is a teacher at Lieser and used to coach for Skyview.
In the meantime, I want to get to know you and let you know more about me. I want to understand where all of you are coming from, what the team dynamics have been like in the past and where you would like to see things go. Please feel free to share with me anything you want to talk about! We will have some virtual team meetings, maybe some Zoom dryland workouts and the team captains might be asking you to get together in small groups to workout (unofficially) without me. I want us to stay in touch and stay motivated. There's actually a lot of opportunity during this time to work on goal-setting, relaxation/visualization, mental training and team-building. If you've never done those things, don't worry, it'll be fun!
Here's a little about me: I started swimming competitively at age 8 on my hometown summer league team in Durango, CO. I swam through high school (Durango High School) and then at Truman State University, a Division II college in Kirksville, MO. After graduating, I immediately started coaching the local YMCA team in Kirksville. I have coached, trained and competed off and on since then. I've dedicated my life to swimming and I will never tire of it! I like to try new training techniques and will always keep your goals and the team goals at the forefront of what we do.
Outside of the pool, I work as a paraeducator at Minnehaha Elementary and I'm a mom of 2 kids! My daughter, Ivy, is a 5th grader at Salmon Creek Elementary and my son, Corbin, is a 3rd grader at Truman Elementary in the Highly Capable program. We love to spend our summers playing in the water at Klineline, Horseshoe Lake or Frenchman's Bar. Their favorite thing to do is tip me off the paddle board! We also love to ski and sit around and cuddle. ๐
I want you to respond to this email answering the following questions:
1) What is your swimming background? (how many years, favorite stroke/events)
2) What do you think went well last season? What went wrong?
3) Is this the best email address for you? (I don't know if my roster is accurate.) Also, please let me know who might be an incoming freshman that I should contact. I want to get in touch with everyone who might want to join the team.
Can't wait to hear from you! Include pictures if you want so I can start connecting names with faces. Attached is a photo of me and my kids.
Thanks!
-Coach Sarah
